When to go?
Late spring (May, June), late summer and early autumn (September) would be the best times to visit Spain. These are the periods of good weather conditions, when you can avoid the most crowded places and extreme heat, and see the best of the landscape.
The peak season is too hot and may be stuffy in the inland areas; Madrid, Seville and Cordoba. Madrid is practically empty in August, which may be tempting for all those who want to escape the crowd. However, the city can get very cold during winter, as the whole central area.
In general, the whole country is extremely hot during mid-summer.
Weather during the summer is milder in the Mediterranean area than in the inland, which attracts many tourists to all tourist resorts along the coast. Costa del Sol, as one of the most popular tourist destination is among the most crowded ones, especially in July and August. Though, these parts are more attractive and popular among tourists, we recommend spending vacation along the northwest coast of Spain, between the Basque Country and Galicia. These parts are less crowded and with very pleasant summer.
Winters are mild along the Mediterranean coast, with occasional heavy rains between October and April. Temperatures can reach below freezing in the inland parts.
When planning a trip to Spain, whether it would be a historical or cultural tour, excursion or sailing vacation, it would be great to see the country’s best fiestas and festivals:
- Carnival in Santa Cruz de Tenerife in February
- Fair in Seville in April
- Feria de Cordoba in May, a fair of drinking, dancing and having fun
- Fiesta de San Fermin – Bull Running in Pamplona in early July
- Semana Grande on the north coast in August
- La Tomatina festival in Bunol, in August
- International Festival of Mediterranean Folklore in September
There is never a bad season to visit Spain. This country offers sightseeing the whole year round. It’s all about the type of vacation you are looking for.
